RIP Jildrey. Died to a goblin with a battleaxe in Session 1 because I rolled a 2 on initiative and got cocky.
Hey guys, just wanted to share the absolute trainwreck of a session we had during this Ravenloft/Dark Sun mashup campaign. The set up is a starting scenario where we all get captured and thrown into a gladiatorial pit run by the tyrant named Sonjjer the Fierce for corrupt noblemen.
I rolled up Jildrey: a massive, absolute unit of a tortle, huge strength build, meant to be a total brawler and hand-to-hand combat monster. I was so hyped to just start punching heads off.
Enter the arena. The gates open for the first wave: just a standard-issue gang of goblins. Puny. Bitches.
I figured, cool, easy warmup round.
Well. Fate and the Dark Powers of Ravenloft had other plans.
One random goblin picks up a giant-ass great battleaxe (seriously, I had issues with the goblin even being able to lift it!) jumps up, rolls a nat 20 on the attack, and the BS: the DM made a rule just for this campaign that crits lead to permanent injuries. So the axe cleaves straight through Jildrey's wrist, severing his hand clean off.
Massive blood loss, and of course. Failed death saves. Jildrey is dead before he even gets to throw a single punch. Total runtime: about 15 minutes of actual gameplay.
RIP Jildrey. You were strong, you were loud, and you were alive for a grand total of one combat encounter.
